Lower Salford Township would like to inform residents of a significant infrastructure project proposed by PPL Electric Utilities Corporation involving the reconstruction of the Whitpain–Buxmont 230-kilovolt transmission line. The project includes replacing the existing aging steel transmission towers and installing six additional towers within Lower Salford Township. The transmission line dates back to 1928, and PPL has identified deterioration in the existing infrastructure, making replacement necessary to improve long-term safety and reliability. Subject to approval by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC), construction is anticipated to begin around January 2027, with expected completion in November 2027. Given the extensive nature of this project and its anticipated construction duration, the Township wishes to provide residents with advance notice of potential construction activity and disturbances along the transmission corridor.

Lower Salford Township is not the regulatory or approving authority for this project. Oversight and approval fall under the jurisdiction of the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC). Although the Township does not have regulatory authority over the proposed work, we believe it is important to keep our residents informed of significant projects occurring within our community. Residents with questions or concerns regarding the project are encouraged to contact the PUC directly. Additionally, the PUC has a public meeting scheduled for January 14, 2027, at which PPL has requested consideration of its application.
