Snowstorm Tips for Lower Salford Township Residents
As winter weather rolls in, Lower Salford Township residents should keep a few important things in mind during snowstorms. Whether you're a snow enthusiast or just looking to stay safe, here’s what you need to know:
1. Parks and Snowstorms
Lower Salford Township is home to 12 beautiful parks. However, during a snowstorm, the Public Works Department's priority is ensuring that all roads are safely cleared for driving. This means that the parking lots and trails in the parks will not be plowed. Please plan ahead and use alternate locations for parking and walking if you're heading out during a snow event.
2. Mailbox Policy: What You Need to Know
The U.S. Postal Service and the Township have collaborated on a Mailbox Policy to ensure safe mail delivery and prevent damage during snow removal. Here’s the breakdown:
-
Mailbox Installation Standards: Mailboxes are allowed within the public road’s right-of-way, but must meet specific guidelines to avoid safety issues and guarantee proper mail delivery.
-
Owner Responsibility: Homeowners must securely fasten their mailboxes to meet the following specifications:
- Height: 41 to 45 inches above the ground.
- Distance from curb: 6 to 8 inches behind the curb or edge of the pavement.
Important: Damage caused by snow thrown by plows is not eligible for reimbursement, unless the mailbox is directly struck by a Township vehicle.
-
If Your Mailbox Is Hit: In the rare event a Township plow strikes your mailbox, you must report it within 48 hours. If your installation adheres to U.S. Postal Service guidelines, you may be eligible for a reimbursement of up to $50.
